A Global History of Women’s Rights

“How much progress have we achieved in the global struggle for equal rights, and how much work remains? From worldwide suffrage campaigns to the rise of #MeToo and digital activism, we have marched slowly forward. But today, the fight for gender equality is far from over. Discover the noteworthy women, grassroots movements and historic milestones that have changed the world for women and girls.” (UN Women)

Knowing what women have accomplished throughout the years should be studied in depth at school. However, this is sometimes not the case. In fact, some claim women have the same rights as men in every aspect but, we know, this is far from the truth.

To help a bit with this, I have created a video-based lesson around the topic of women’s right, most specifically, the events that paved the way for the rights (some) women have nowadays.

By downloading this worksheet, your students will work on their speaking skills, listening skills, and grammar.

Additionally, I have added a Go Beyond! section to allow your students to develop their critical thinking skills and creativity by suggesting a research-like activity where they will have to investigate about key events in history which are mentioned in the video but not fully explained. Moreover, they will have the possibility to assess how much their classmates have retained by asking them questions about their topics after a short presentation is given.
